What Its All About :
 
    Situated in the busy suburb of Andheri (W), Sardar Patel College of Engineering ( or SPCE, as it is popularly known ) ranks amongst the premier and currently the most prestigious engineering institutions in the city.

In its simplest form, SPACE is the acronym for Sardar Patel's Annual Cultural Extravaganza. Pretty cool huh? Well, the fete is even better.

Since its inception in 1983 (it is the 3rd  oldest festival of its kind...only Mood Indigo of IIT (Powai) and Malhar of St. Xavier's come before!), this inter-collegiate event has constantly grown in popularity amongst the college crowd. Today it stands as one of the most prestigious and well-organized inter-collegiate festivals in Mumbai city.

It not only acts as a platform for the students to test their talents in a very competitive environment but also provides three days of complete entertainment for everyone visiting the festival. Thus the festival receives overwhelming response from scores of students (from over 70 colleges) all over the city, year after year. SPACE has distinctly carved a niche for itself amongst today's youth crowd.

The venue for the festival are the college premises, which undergo a total upliftment during the festival, courtesy our Decoration & Design Teams. Throughout the day events belonging to various categories like Literary, Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Sports. Along with these events numerous special events like Personality Contest, Informals , Ad-World are held which keep the visiting crowd involved. Provisions for stalls (including cafeteria, sales, counseling, seminars), which are beneficial to everyone visiting, are made in a section of the college.

The highlight of the festival are its night events like a thoroughly professional Fashion Show , Visual-Impact Show, which are held in late evenings. Inspite of stupendous turnout of students for these events, they are efficiently managed by our security and administration teams. The major attraction of the entire festival is the huge amounts of prize money given to the winners. This not only attracts a great deal of students, but also raises the level of competition. In addition , SPACE-98 also featured a pro-nite , featuring eminent artists like Pandit Satish Vyas on santoor and Ustad Shafat Ahmed Khan on the tabla .

Now in its 12th birthday, with every passing year the festival has been growing from strength to strength, and this year we plan to make it bigger than ever before...

So what do we have in mind for this year's SPACE ? One thing for sure...Itz gonna be bigger, better and different from other festivals of its kind. Itz gonna be what the youth of today would simply love...Sounds too cliché huh? Well, wait till you know whatz it gonna be like...

The Events :

With due credit to our 'Event Research Team' , we have carefully chosen those events which will go on to make the festival a huge success. After interacting with students of other colleges, we have modified certain existing events as well as introduced a great many new events which are bound to evoke great interest.

We have 7 major event categories viz. Literary, Oratory, Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Musical, Technical & Special Events. All in all, we have more than 40 events spread over the time period of 3 days. That means three days of excitement, three days of fun, three days of a lot more.
 
 

Sophistication :

So what do you expect when a reputed engineering college hosts its festival? One thing for sure, a lot of sophistication, and we are not gonna let you down on this one.


This year we plan to pioneer the 'overall computerization' (pretty hi-fi huh?) SPACE. And how exactly our we gonna do that? Read on to find out...
 

• · The reception and  registration of the students participating for various events is going to be computerized to ensure smooth and quick functioning of these procedures. Every participant will be given a computerized participation slip.
•  Introduction of a large screen at the entrance which will continuously display a computer presentation of SPACE '99. It will publicize the various events, happenings, latest tally and whatz hot  at SPACE '99. We look forward to make it as impressive and as attractive as possible.
• · Introduction of computer based events e.g. an inter-collegiate software making competition, plus special events where computer-based designers and animators can unleash their creativity. Along with these we intend to incorporate computerized score-keeping  for events like JAM, quizzes, etc.
• · The above mentioned challenging aspects of computerizing SPACE are going to be well managed by the appointment of our  'Computer Development Team' whose chief responsibilities are how to make the festival as sophisticated and stylish as possible and it is something which you should be looking out for...

Some Special Attractions :

          Whatz gonna be hot at SPACE '99? Here are some of the highpoints to look out for...
 

• 'Money makes the world go round...', looks like the youth too follows this concept. So we give him what he always needs...money...money and more money. Yup, the cash prizes for events at SPACE '99 are gonna touch an all time high. With such enticing cash incentives, we can expect the students to be thronging to our festival just to win and get their hands on that load of green...
•  Everybody visiting the festival is gonna be assured of a good time. How? Courtesy our 'Good Time Gang' whose foremost responsibility is to organize a 'Carnival Village' in a section of our college, where a whole lotta of games and informal activities for the 'time-pass' of the crowd are gonna be held. Like a mini-fun fair .  Not a chance that anyone visiting the fest is gonna leave this one out.
•  Introduced in the previous SPACE, The Discotheque - 'Grooveyard' was an instant hit amongst the frenzied youngsters who had to stand in long queues to get in. And once they got in, boy , there was no going out. It was hip, move and shake for everybody swaying to the catchy foot-tapping music at the disc. No doubt, the discotheque got rave reviews from a lot of people and deserved a special mention in the newspapers for its highly professional organization. The tradition will continue...
•  Another of our highlights is the publishing of our SPACE-MAG which is going to be the SPACE '99 souvenir. Apart from containing an overview of the festival (what went into making it), it will consist of the prize winning entries from previous space + list of winners + college tally and spicy articles which make interesting reading. Its going to be a magazine with an attitude. The attitude of the youth.
•  They are our biggest draws. They enchant the maximum crowd. They are the biggest events in terms of the prize money, the crowd turnout, the magnamity and ofcourse for the the glamour and the glitterati associated with it. What we are  referring to are the Coola-shakers (Group Dance)  and Ramp@ge (the Fashion Show) at SPACE '99 which have today's  best teams vying for the top spot. They comprise of our special night attractions and are amongst the most talked about events. You just can't afford to miss them.
•  Celebrities are always crowd pullers. Get them to judge an event and you have got a memorable event. Get them to judge for as many events as possible and you have got a memorable festival. That's what our 'Judges Coordination Committee' is gonna rack their brains about. To get people who are famed and experts in their respective fields in order to judge our events. Also we intend to rope in a professional celebrity host for our important onstage events. The crowd is just gonna love the big-wigs coming to the festival...
